cuppa and catch up

I caught up with a dear friend today who I haven't seen in ages, we both seem to have had so much going on in the last year we haven't had the time to just sit and chat. I surprised her with an apron and as you can see she took it home and put it to good use. I think I forgot how tiny she is and could have made it a bit smaller, but all in all she seemed pretty pleased with it.

2.2 degrees

This morning when we got up it was 2.2 degrees. I went to make the bed and you can see who was on top having such a lovely nap. I had to make the bed around her!

relay for life

This evening I went out to the Relay for life at Penguin and lit a candle for Jen and Wendy, it was a very moving moment and to watch all the hundreds of candles in bags along the track was just beautiful, all to remember loved ones gone. When they let the balloons go into the night sky with candles in them it was very special (not to mention a touch sad!). The money raised by everyone is truly amazing.

Ruby

Last year I found a lady that painted animals, I gave her a photo of our little dog Ruby (15 .5 years old now) and thought it would be nice to have her with us in paint on the wall, I forgot to ask the lady how much before getting it painted and when I went to pick it up it was a bit more than I expected, but well worth it! What a talented lady. It is just perfect.

recipe apron

A while back I bought this cute material from Spotlight and have made a half apron, it is rather cute with the little recipes all over it. Think I will keep this one for myself.

cushion making

I was sitting reading the newspaper on sunday afternoon (my husband said "do you ever sit still") when I looked up and thought those three cushions need new covers so I jumped up and here are the three new covers, I went for bright, winter is on the way and I thought why not brighten up the chairs. The flowery one on the grey chair is for my sister (chrisartist) it is left over material from our sister Jen (recently passed away) even the ric rac was Jens, so I am really doing a bit of re-cycling ! and a memory for chris too.

pram/cradle blanket

My friend has just welcomed her 12th grandchild - a little boy - into the world so I ran up a little blanket to give to the new Mum and Dad yesterday morning. I backed it with polar fleece (that is the colorful flowery bit in picture) which will be nice and warm for the coming winter.

Apron winner - Margie from Victoria

Margie Brophy from Victoria you have won my Apron giveaway - I will be in touch with you soon to let you know your apron is on its way - I really loved all the stories but yours was my favourite as you had to give your apron away as a young girl to others who didn't have much - I thought was a lovely thing to do. I really hope you like the one I have made, :) Thank you all for entering.

sew with Cath Kidston

Today in the mail I received a lovely surprise, my daughter had bought me something off e-bay and I am so excited. It is a Cath Kidston book with over 40 projects inside templates included! Bags, cushions, aprons - too many to list! I am over the moon, thank you Kate. Also in the photo you will see a package with Cath Kidston material - Kate had also purchased me this on e-bay too, it arrived last week. I am thoroughly spoilt - I can't wait to make something. Roll on week-end.

little waterproof aprons

To save the children getting wet when they play washing up at the sink I whipped up some waterproof aprons, I used a piece of tablecloth material - cut out the little apron shape, sewed on some tape and away we went with water play, they were a great hit.

kids can be happy with boxes too

In my little child care business at home I am always looking for new ideas for the children, I taped two shoe boxes together, taped on some material for a door, as one little one said "have a top bunk for the people to sleep" and they played for absolutely ages, I did them back to back so two at a time can play together but not be squashed. I think it worked pretty well don't you?
